Of course, there’s more to Angleton than just Texas’s largest county fair. Today, it has access to modern facilities like LASIK eye care centers, but it also has a long history. The town got its start back in the 1890s as an agricultural trade center. For the first several decades of its history, Angleton depended mostly on agricultural trade (like cotton, corn, cattle, rice, and soybeans) for its economic development, although it has followed the rest of Brazoria County in pursuing more industrial areas over the past 70 years. Today, oil and petrochemical companies provide a substantial portion of the local economy.

When it comes to families, Angleton is an ideal small town just off the coast. In addition to the county fair, the town hosts the annual Austin Town Festival, a colonial re-enactment of 1930s Texas towns, in addition to serving as home to the Brazoria County Historical Museum (as the town was once the seat of the county government).
