Located further east than its name might indicate, South Houston has developed in much the same trajectory as many other small Houston-area towns. It was in the 1940s and 1950s that South Houston started to see the most significant development. The town’s population leapt over that period as industry in the Houston Ship Channel expanded during those years.

Today, the area is home to nearly 4,000 families, including a rapidly growing Latino community in the area. South Houston is just a short drive to Houston, giving its residents easy access to laser vision correction care.
