When it comes to nice areas in the Houston region, there may be none nicer than West University Place. This small locale in the southwest area of Houston is one of the wealthiest towns in the region—and the fifth wealthiest town in all of Texas—developing into a swath of high-end developments over the past few decades.

West University Place is also known as “The Neighborhood City,” as it is mostly a commuter town for professionals working in Houston and continues to support them with full medical care access, including for LASIK eye surgery. The town was first developed in 1917 by former Tennessee Governor Ben Hooper, who started West University Place using pieces of what had been the Harris County Poor farm. The town derived its name from its proximity to Rice University, which sits just a few blocks down the road.

The town incorporated for practical purposes in the 1920s, as the City of Houston would not extend power lines that far out of the city center, and West University Place quickly grew into a nice middle-class town over the next several decades. When development laws changed in the 1990s, though, larger houses started to replace the mid-sized homes that had existed, attracting many upper-class professionals and families.

While West University Place is technically its own city, it also has easy access to LASIK eye surgery facilities across the Houston area. LASIK eye surgery can do wonders for your perspective on the world. Instead of experiencing West University Place through blurry lenses, why not get the fog cleared up with laser vision correction? Call your local eye care center today to learn more about LASIK eye surgery.
